When Whittingham Club moved into a brand-new building, the committee wanted an interior to match. Forest Contract delivered the complete sports club interior design, from the first site visit to the final installation.

Our team developed three concept designs and drew detailed CAD furniture plans. Then we supplied and installed every piece, including bespoke banquettes with built-in planters and drinks shelving.

As a result, the new clubhouse was ready for its grand opening on 11 September.

From the Old Clubhouse to a New Build

The old clubhouse had served members for many years. However, it felt dated, and the building is now due for demolition. Meanwhile, a new purpose-built clubhouse was taking shape.

By March, the steel frame and blockwork were in place. So we could plan the interior around the real rooms, not just drawings.

How the Project Came Together

Every stage of this sports club interior design ran through one team. That meant the club had a single point of contact, from the first visit to opening day.

  1. Site Visit

First, we reviewed the new building and its planned flooring and wall finishes.

  2. Concept Designs

Next, we created three concepts and moodboards around those finishes.

  3. Committee Choice

Then the committee chose a fresh teal and mustard direction.

  4. CAD GA Plans

After that, we drew a full layout for 52 covers across 199 m².

  5. Specification

Once approved, we issued the final moodboard, fabrics and laminate samples.

  6. Installation

Finally, we fitted the furniture, banquettes, planters and shelving.

  7. Opening Day

Soon after, the new clubhouse opened on 11 September.

Three Sports Club Interior Design Concepts

First, we presented three concept designs, each with its own moodboard. All three were designed to complement the club’s flooring and wall specifications.

The first paired soft blues with natural oak. Meanwhile, the second set mustard against deep navy. Finally, the third explored rich burgundy tones.

Teal and Mustard, Chosen by the Committee

The committee then chose a direction of teal and mustard. Because of this, we moved the scheme from Prussian blue to a brighter aqua.

That change also let us introduce a striking patterned fabric, Azoth Aqua. It now runs through the banquettes, tub chairs and bar stools, tying the whole room together.

Three ideas, one committee, and a scheme the whole club could get behind.

Planning the Club Layout

Next, our designers produced detailed CAD GA plans. The layout seats 52 covers across 199 m², and it gives each activity its own zone:

  • Two snooker tables, a pool table and darts in the games area
  • Banquettes, tub chairs and dining tables in the club lounge
  • Clear routes for staff and members around the bar
  • A meeting room, together with tables for dominoes

Since the plan came first, every chair, table and banquette was sized to the room before manufacture began.

Bespoke Banquettes with Planters

The centrepiece of the sports club interior design is a run of bespoke fluted banquette seating. Each banquette is backed by a timber planter and drinks shelving.

On one side, members sit and dine. On the other, bar stools line the drinks shelf, overlooking the snooker tables. Meanwhile, the greenery softens the room and gently divides the games area from the lounge.

The fluted backs are upholstered in Azoth Aqua, with seats in Rizada Osprey.
