Reach Beyond Millside Centre

The Christian charity Reach Beyond has been based in Bradford for over 30 years, working in community development and media in the UK and worldwide. This year they opened a new community centre in their city centre building, working with local partners to create a safe and welcoming space where some of the most vulnerable people in Bradford could find the help and services they need. The Millside Centre consists of a welcoming reception area, three meeting rooms, and a coffee lounge with a fully equipped kitchen, and, just like Reach Beyond’s projects overseas, the aim of the new facility is to show compassion to those in need and help build community. Forest were privileged when asked to help with their huge renovation project, as we were able to supply their fantastic café with some banquette seating to match the style set by the interior designers.

The Banquette Seating

The banquette seating we provided was our Fluted Back design, and was upholstered in two of our C range fabrics-Panaz Linear 252 Willow was on the back of the seat, which is a light and dark green woven fabric with a stain resistant finish, making it ideal for a café. The seats of the pieces were upholstered in Sunbury Design Nappa Leaf 8724 which is a lighter green suede type fabric. This perfectly complements the fabric on the back of the banquette seating and mixes well with the grey and white tables, along with the plants nearby.

The bottom of the banquette seating was finished in our wood colour 329 grey, which matches the grey chairs and plant pots but contrasts with the wooden features and orange lighting. This orange and grey theme runs throughout the Millside Centre, so working with the interior designers to create this look and feel in the café, whilst maintaining the practicality of the seating, was especially interesting. The Sunbury Design fabric was particularly important in keeping the colour scheme consistent and maintaining the functionality, as it is finished with Aqua Clean technology, meaning tough stains can be washed away with just water. This was an important factor in choosing this fabric, as a café with so many visitors needs to be maintained easily.

A year on, and the banquette seating is still going strong and looking as smart as ever, with the staff at the Millside Centre telling us they’ve received many comments on the quality and design. The Millside Centre continues to provide help to the likes of refugees and the homeless, and Forest were proud to have been a part of their renovation project.
