The Red Lion, Bradley
The Red Lion is a Grade II listed village inn near Stafford, built of brick, stone and timber framing and probably seventeenth century in origin. It has been run as a well-regarded gastropub, and in 2025 it became part of Davenports' Boutique Collection.

Pub furniture for The Red Lion
We worked with an interior designer to a brief for a traditional country pub with added comfort and polish, which would sit happily with the existing furniture. Vintage leathers and traditional patterned fabrics were matched to the carpet and paintwork.

About The Red Lion
The Red Lion stands in the centre of Bradley, on Smithy Lane beside the village church, and began life as a coaching inn. Historic England's listing describes a two-storey building, much altered over the centuries, with a gabled porch, casement windows and a colour-washed front, built of brick, stone rubble and timber framing.
In 2025 the Birmingham brewer Davenports, founded in 1829, bought the pub for its Boutique Collection of pubs with distinctive décor and food. After a refurbishment it reopened on 18 July 2025, with a main restaurant, a large rear dining room, an outdoor Champagne terrace and garden, and a heated dining dome for up to six. The menu runs from pub classics and sharing flatbreads to a Sunday roast, with free live music on Saturday evenings.
A country pub, with added comfort and polish
The brief was a traditional country pub with more comfort and polish, and the photographs show how it came together. Around the brick fireplace, tub chairs in tan and oxblood leather have outside backs in a blue damask, so they look as good from the doorway as from the seat. Wing chairs in tan leather sit beneath a wall of clocks, and everything stands on worn oak boards.
In the dining room, exposed stone, heavy curtains and a plum tartan carpet set a warmer, more enclosed mood. At the entrance, the two red leather Chesterfields are deep-buttoned and studded: the classic pub sofa, done properly. Because the leathers have a vintage finish and the patterns are traditional, nothing looks newly arrived.
