Our part

Bar furniture for Cocktail bar, Putney

For a refresh of the bar, we supplied seating in bright colours and velvet upholstery, giving the room the playful look the bar was known for.

Velvet is a demanding choice for a bar open until 2am, so the fabrics were contract velvets, and like every upholstered piece we supply, the seating met the CRIB 5 fire standard required in UK hospitality.

What we supplied

  • Bar seating and armchairs
  • Velvet upholstery in bright colours

The venue

The setting

The bar opened in June 2013 on Putney High Street, about a hundred metres from the Thames, in a building that had been a tapas bar. It was a party bar built around childhood: drinks came in Lego-style cups and doll's-house jugs, the cocktail menu was laid out like a board game, and there were Wendy houses and table-tennis tables. An American-influenced food menu ran alongside the cocktails, craft beers and wine, and the doors stayed open until 2am at weekends.

The building has three storeys above a part basement, with a second bar and a roof terrace on the first floor. The bar has since closed.

The look

Bright, comfy and playful

DesignMyNight summed up the décor as 'bright, comfy and playful', and the seating was where most of that colour came from. Armchairs in a sunshine-yellow velvet line a long table of pale scrubbed pine, and further back the bar stools and chairs switch to orange and a strong blue, against red walls, a dark ceiling and clusters of white glass pendants on red flex.

It is a deliberately loud palette, closer to a toy box than a cocktail lounge, and velvet keeps it from feeling cheap: the pile catches the light and deepens the colour. Rounded, wraparound armchairs suit a bar where people settle in for the evening, and the plain timber table keeps the room from tipping into fancy dress.
