Hand-tacked studding: the finishing touch

Studded edges are tacked in by hand, one stud at a time, in our own workshops. The finishes we offer, and where studding works best.

Studding frames the shape of a sofa, a chair or a banquette, and gives a traditional piece its crisp outline. Each stud is placed and tacked in by hand by our upholsterers, so the line follows every curve of the arm or back.

Finishes

We offer studs in Chrome, Bronze Renaissance and Brass, with a head about 13 mm across. See them with our other finishes.

Where it works

Studding suits Chesterfields and other traditional sofas, wing chairs and armchairs, and it can trim a headboard, like the border of the Larkin bed. It also works on leather and faux leather, like the strip of studs on the Colchester armchairs at Monton Sports & Cricket Club.
