Our part

Restaurant furniture for La Bandera

The owners, Yashin and Dennis, came to our showroom with a clear vision. We supplied bright yellow fluted booths and banquettes, with light woodwork on the chairs to suit the restaurant's vibrant, cultural feel.

Fluted banquettes are one of the products we make in our own workshops, so the booths could be shaped to the room, from the curve of the window bay to the long runs along the walls.

From the moment they stepped into the showroom, they had a clear vision, and I'm really pleased we were able to bring their ideas to life.

About La Bandera

La Bandera opened just before Christmas 2014 at 2 Ridgefield, a back street between King Street and Deansgate, in a unit that had long been Harpers. It was set up by Yashin Dadashnejad, who comes from Tenerife and had worked at Neighbourhood in Manchester, and the launch menu was developed with the consultant chef Josetxo Arrieta, whose career included Akelarre near San Sebastián.

The menu covers food from across Spain, including the Canary Islands: squid ink croquettes, meatballs made to the owner's grandmother's recipe, and papas arrugadas with red and green mojo, with small-batch Canary Island wines and sangria. Paella, a tasting menu, bottomless brunch and a pre-theatre menu sit alongside the tapas, and a covered terrace has since been added at the front.

The look

Sunshine yellow, from booth to bar

La Bandera is very yellow, and gloriously so. Fluted booths and long banquettes in a bright sunflower yellow wrap around the room, curving into semicircular booths in the window bay and running in long straight lines down the walls, so almost every table is backed by colour.

La bandera means 'the flag' in Spanish, and red and yellow are the colours of Spain's flag. The scheme plays on that: red drum pendants hang over the tables and red glass candle holders sit on them, so the two colours carry from the seating to the lighting. Light timber chairs, some with yellow seats and some upholstered all over, and light oak floors keep the look fresh and sunny rather than heavy.

Against cream walls and stone-effect feature columns, the effect is warm, cheerful and unmistakably Mediterranean, the kind of room that looks full even on a quiet lunchtime. It is a bold brand look, and the vertical lines of the fluting keep all that colour looking tailored.
