How Aquaclean works
Aquaclean is not a treatment sprayed onto the finished fabric. It is built into every fibre during manufacture: each one is covered with an invisible layer that stops dirt soaking into the fabric.
It works in two ways. Spills stay on the surface instead of soaking in, so they can be blotted up with a cloth, and a stain that has already dried can be released with a little water.
Every range also includes Safe Front, an invisible barrier against bacteria, viruses and mites that helps against odours too.
Cleaning in three steps
- Remove anything left on the surface.
- Apply a little water to the stain, directly or with a clean, wrung-out cloth, and leave it for a few seconds.
- Press the damp cloth onto the stain and rub gently in small circles. Repeat if needed.
Filtered or bottled water avoids limescale marks. From the Aquaclean care guide.
Cleans with just water
Spills that permanently mark most fabrics, from red wine and beer to food, biro and even permanent marker, can be removed with just water.
Hygiene built in
Every range includes Safe Front protection, tested to ISO 20743 with a 99.99% reduction in bacteria after 24 hours.
Made for contract use
Rated for severe contract upholstery, to BS 7176 Medium Hazard, and the toughest qualities reach 250,000 Martindale rubs.
Kinder materials
Halogen free and PFC free, REACH compliant, and tested for harmful substances to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Easy-care fabrics for busy hospitality spaces
In a busy bar, restaurant or hotel, upholstery has to cope with spills every day. Aquaclean fabrics are made for exactly that: the protection is built into every fibre, so most spills can be cleaned with just water.
Sunbury Design offers six Aquaclean ranges in our range C, from the soft, suede-like Nubuck and the hard-wearing Nappa faux leather to the wool-effect Lana, the textured Kiko and Darwin weaves and the Nexus chenille. Our in-house designers can help you choose, and samples are available on request.
Questions we are often asked
What is Aquaclean?
Aquaclean is a stain-resistant technology built into every fibre of the fabric during manufacture, so that stains such as red wine, beer, food, biro and even permanent marker can be removed with just water.
How do I clean an Aquaclean fabric?
Remove anything left on the surface, apply a little water to the stain (directly or with a clean, wrung-out cloth) and leave it a few seconds, then press the damp cloth onto the stain and rub gently in small circles, repeating if needed. Filtered or bottled water avoids limescale marks.
Is Aquaclean hygienic?
Every Aquaclean range includes Safe Front, which protects against bacteria, viruses and mites. It is tested to ISO 20743, with a 99.99% reduction in bacteria after 24 hours, and to ISO 18184, at 91% effective against feline coronavirus.
Are Aquaclean fabrics fire rated?
Yes. Every range meets CRIB 5 for contract upholstery, and most are certified to BS 7176 Medium Hazard, with marine and US ratings on several.
Which price range are the Aquaclean fabrics in?
All six are in our range C, the middle of our five price bands, so they suit most hospitality budgets.
Can I have samples?
Yes. Add the colours you would like to your enquiry list as you browse, then send the list, and we will send the samples to you.
